Pruning olive and fruit trees

From March 7 to 9, after two days of intense rain that prevented any outdoor work, the sun has finally arrived.

We took the opportunity to invite a young entrepreneur of the School "B. Marsano" (Institute of Higher Education in Technical Agriculture) reccommended by a teacher of the Institute during the last "Mandillo of seeds" in Torriglia, to help us in pruning of olive and fruit trees scattered around the house.

Daniel, the name of our friend, he really did miracles Daniel, the name of our friend, he really made miracles exaggerating with shears, shears, saw, and chainsaw. After three days of work, the grove was littered with branches stacked, enough to ask how it was possible that all that stuff was before on the trees. We were near him, a little to learn and a bit to clean as the material which accumulated.

Just to avoid having to "throw" or, worse, burn the resulting material of the pruning, we decided to recycle it by returning it to the olive grove as a novel food for the soil. With Brunella we shared the task of transporting from the terraces to the path, where we had brought the shredder, and the task of the chipping... but after three days of hard work we are just half done.

The olive grove, however, in the pruned part (about a quarter of the trees) has literally changed in appearance. Now we have to wait and see if, at least this year, there is hope in a minimum production of oil at least for a family use. The pothinus told us that it is unlikely that the pruned trees will already produce this year, but if they'll do them, we hope that they do so at least those we do not "clipped".

In any case we will be happy anyway, because we have already been our "oil" thanks to the three beautiful days passed in the midst of our beloved trees.
